Yeah... I think it's horrible how wolves are portrayed in stories and whatever. Like you said, the one who ate the pigs, the one who ate Red's Grandma, the one who killed the shepherd boy... did you know that Red Riding Hood had a different twist originally? It was written by the Brothers Grimm and you can find the full version here. Basically it's this:

Little Red Cap sets out from her mother's house with cake and wine. Her mother has warned her not to stray from the path, so she doesn't. Then she sees the wolf and "not knowing what a wicked animal he was" tells him what she's doing and where she's going. Very stupidly and by his suggestion she strays from the path to pick flowers while the wolf heads straight to Grandma's. She believes, stupidly, that he is Little Red Cap, and lets him in. He eats her, puts on her clothes, and draws the curtains.

Little Red walks in, surprised at the open door, and sees the wolf in Grandma's clothes but, stupidly, doesn't realize it's the wolf. Then there's the whole "Oh, grandmother, what big ears you have!" "All the better to hear you with." "Oh, grandmother, what big eyes you have!" "All the better to see you with." "Oh, grandmother, what big hands you have!" "All the better to grab you with!" "Oh, grandmother, what a horribly big mouth you have!" "All the better to eat you with!" And he eats her, takes off the clothes, climbs on the bed and starts snoring.

A hunter passes by and sees the wolf on the bed. He's been hunting this wolf for a long time and sees he's eaten Grandmother, but maybe she's still alive. He cuts open the wolf's belly with a pair of scizzors and out jump Red and Grandma. Then Red fills the wolf's belly with big, heavy stones. When the wolf wakes up they're so heavy he falls down dead.

And quote: The three of them were happy. The huntsman took the wolf's pelt. The grandmother ate the cake and drank the wine that Little Red Cap had brought. And Little Red Cap thought to herself, "As long as I live, I will never leave the path and run off into the woods by myself if mother tells me not to."

Wow. Sick. And completely illogical besides. Also wolves have been portrayed so horribly... a wolf whistle is sexual, Roman bitchhouses were connected with the word for a female wolf, there's "crying wolf", and the wonderful saying "A wolf in sheep's clothing". Ugh. Stupid humans.
